Meetings Week 2010

The Meetings Industry Council of Colorado (MIC) is excited to announce a new week long line-up to coincide with the 10th Anniversary of the MIC Education Conference and Tradeshow. In an effort to provide more ROI for our supplier partners, we have expanded this one day conference to include numerous special events throughout the week.
The MIC Annual Conference is the Rocky Mountain Region’s premier event for the meeting planning community. As such, MIC attracts local as well as national planners and suppliers. For their support we would like to reward our suppler partners by providing more time to visit with this captured audience.
In 2010, there will be additional days available to network with planners and invite potential customers to promotional events sponsored by your company. Scroll down to see the full schedule for the week.
Meetings Week events will be promoted through this website, advance Conference promotional materials to over 3000 industry members and throughout the day of the Conference. The planning and logistics of each ancillary event would be the responsibility of the organization sponsoring the event.
We hope you take advantage of this opportunity and assist us in building what is sure to become an annual tradition.
Sincerely,
Ken Williams

IAEE and SISO Continue Their Collaborative Efforts
Joint Sessions Benefit All Members of Trade Show Industry
DALLAS, 8 July 2009 - In order to unify the trade show industry into a cohesive voice representing all aspects of the exhibitions and events industry, IAEE (International Association of Exhibitions and Events) and SISO (Society of Independent Show Organizers) are collaborating by jointly presenting a session at the upcoming SISO 2009 Executive Conference at the New York Marriott Marquis. The session, titled Determining and Improving our Partners' ROI, will be held Wednesday, 5 August 2009 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will focus on proving the value of exhibitions, conferences and events as it applies to all participants in a trade show.
As every entity involved with a trade show (organizers, exhibitors, attendees, vendors and venues) are members of the organizers' strategic team - and thus part of the P&L mix - it is important that each understand how they singularly and collectively influence the whole as it relates to their ROI at their events. Case studies will reveal examples on how all participants can work together to ensure everyone gains greater value from their participation: be it in writing more orders, attracting additional new business, meeting new prospects, finding new products or services, increasing visibility in their industry, conducting competitive market intelligence, forging strategic alliances or reducing costs so they can turn a profit in today's challenging economy.
Margaret Pederson, chair of IAEE and president of Amirexx, will moderate the session. Mike Cooke, chair of The Exhibition Industry Foundation (EIF) and chief executive officer of dmg world media, along with Georgianne Decenzo, executive vice president of Advanstar, will offer examples about how their respective organizations are working with clients to meet the need to prove ROI. Cooke's experience producing multiple events will demonstrate how dmg world media works with individual clients that can increase their ROI by as much as 50 percent. Decenzo will explore the elements that contribute to the success of The Licensing Show. She will describe how Advanstar relocated the event, revised space sales strategies and integrated digital media into their marketing plan. Skip Cox, CEO of Exhibit Surveys, Inc., will share how his client's expectations are changing, how they now measure ROI and how the results affect their decision to participate in exhibitions. Cox will explain how these results will impact organizers of events and exhibitions.
SISO and IAEE are both committed to serving their members by collaborating with each other. Both organizations believe that today's business environment is far too complex for any one organization to meet all their members needs, find partners with new solutions and bring greater value to each of their constituencies. IAEE and SISO see partnering in this way as another opportunity to work harmoniously and cooperatively together to advance our common industry objectives.
This relationship is just the first in a series of ventures where SISO and IAEE will be working together to improve communications throughout their respective communities and for the Industry as a whole. The two organizations will continue to provide joint educational programming through Webinars in the Autumn and another joint session at Expo! Expo! IAEE's Annual Meeting & Exhibition to be held 8-10 December 2009 in Atlanta, Ga.
About IAEE
Since 1928, the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) continues to provide quality and value to its members through leadership, service, education and strong relationships. IAEE is the largest association of the exhibitions and events industry in the world, with a membership of show organizers, exhibitors and exhibition suppliers. Organizers of more than 20,000 exhibitions and buyer-seller events around the world are members of IAEE. Through the 2006 consolidation with the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR), IAEE delivers valuable industry research reports. IAEE also supports IAEE Services, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary that partners with industry suppliers and service providers to offer high quality, low cost exhibition products and services to the industry. IAEE recognizes its strategic partners: ASP, Inc., Mexico Tourism Board, Orange County Convention Center and Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau. Visit www.iaee.com for more information.
About SISO
The Society of Independent Show Organizers (www.siso.org) is designed to meet the needs of for-profit show producers in an environment where strategic and tactical decisions can be implemented to maximize profit potential. SISO provides peer networking opportunities, education, research, white papers, industry trends and best practices in the events industry. SISO members produce more than 3,000 events globally including trade and consumer shows, conferences and other face-to-face events.

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION’S PREMIER EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE IN THE MEETING AND EVENT INDUSTRY
DENVER, March 18, 2009. Save the date for the MIC Annual Educational Conference and Tradeshow. Over 600 professionals in the meeting and event planning industry will converge on the Colorado Convention Center for what is shaping up to be the premier educational conference in the Rocky Mountain Region in 2009. The one-day conference will be full of education with a top notch schedule of breakout sessions, lunch coupled with a national caliber keynote speaker, and a bustling trade show full of local suppliers as well as exhibitors from around the country - including Washington, D.C., Texas, Wyoming, California, and even Puerto Rico and Canada.
PARTNERSHIP OF 12 ORGANIZATIONS INTO ONE COUNCIL
The Meetings Industry Council of Colorado, incorporated in 2000, is a partnership between 12 national and local member organizations either founded in Colorado or with in state chapters. Rather than each association hosting it’s own annual conference and trade show, leaders from these organizations have gathered to create one event in which individual members are invited to attend one large conference in order to maximize attendance, networking opportunities, and return on investment.
CONFERENCE IS BIGGER AND BETTER IN EMERGING MEETINGS DESTINATION
Nine years later, the conference is doing better than ever, with record attendance, 14 speakers for workshops and education sessions, and over 100 exhibitors. MIC is an opportunity for industry peers to gather once a year and not only reconnect with each other but expand their knowledge and expertise in the meeting and events industry. The MIC of Colorado has become an important regional show that allows CVB’s, hotels, and suppliers to reach a growing number of meeting planners based in the Denver Metro area. Denver continues to grow as a meeting destination and now competes regularly with tier-one cities.

RMPCMA Community Service Committee
It has been a busy year for the Rocky Mountain PCMA’s community service committee. First, the committee would like to say a huge thank you to all the generous volunteers. With your help, we’ve been able to make a positive impact on many people in our community!
For the past two years, that positive impact has in part come through our work at the Ronald McDonald House in Denver. The RMH provides a home away from home for 31 families each night. Four times per year for the last two years, the community service committee has prepared nutritious dinners where 6 volunteers come together to cook and serve a meal for 40 people. The guests of the RMH are away from home – sometimes for extended periods of time – supporting a loved one in the hospital. It is not an easy time for them, but the comfort of a home-cooked meal provided by the community service committee is a welcomed gift.
Our volunteers quickly learned that the RMH had serious oven challenges. When an opportunity arose to host a fundraiser in April 2008, we immediately thought to replace the four ovens in the house. Over 40 volunteers helped stuff welcome bags for a city-wide convention at the Colorado Convention Center. That effort earned $4,000, enabling us to buy brand new ovens for the Ronald McDonald House!
The year isn’t over yet, however, and there are two more chances to get involved. On November 5, we’ll come together for Service In Sync, where 25 volunteers will hold a craft day to cheer up the children at the Children’s Hospital. This annual tradition is festive and always a ton of fun! And on December 11 at the RMPCMA Holiday Party, we’ll be collecting donations and gifts for the Family Tree Shelter. This is a great opportunity to help make someone’s holiday a little extra special.

NETWORK FOR THE NEEDY LUNCHEON "ELEVATES HUNGER AWARENESS TO A NEW ALTITUDE" AT THE DENVER MERCHANDISE MART
On Thursday, November 8, 2007, thirteen Colorado hospitality organizations joined forces again for the 14th Annual Network for the Needy Luncheon 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough,' to raise funds for Food Bank of the Rockies' Denver's Table program. Chefs from local hotels, restaurants and catering companies put their best 'food' forward, tempting attendees with their appealing appetizers, exquisite entrées and delectable desserts. Local food critics and fellow chefs will award prizes in four categories (presentation, appetizer/salad, entrée, dessert) to the best entries.
Network for the Needy is sponsored by the Meetings Industry Council of Colorado (www.mic-colorado.org). The special committee is a group of dedicated and compassionate individuals from the hospitality industry who work together to create a wonderful event with delicious food, and fun, original entertainment. Everything is donated, so 100% of the proceeds benefit Food Bank of the Rockies and its Denver's Table program.
Food Bank of the Rockies distributed over 16 million pounds of food to 900 hunger-relief programs last year. Its Denver's Table program collects donations of prepared food from restaurants and caterers as well as perishable foods from local grocers and delivers it to agencies serving meals to the needy. Last year, agencies served more than 846,000 meals to less fortunate children, seniors and families; food that otherwise would have been thrown away.
The event featured emcee Ed Greene of Channel 4 News who once again took time from his busy schedule to be part of this important cause. Ed helped the Network for the Needy present the largest check ever of $20,000 check to the Food Bank of the Rockies. Ed also presented an award to the winning artist from Kid's Café, Matice Bowens, Age 10 (shown above-right).
Please mark your calendars for next year's event to be held at the Denver Merchandise Mart on Thursday, November 13, 2008.

Experient
Classic Raises $7,000 To Provide Meals For 'At
Risk' Children
Twinsburg,
OH - Experient, the source for integrated meeting
and event solutions, hosted its eighth annual
Classic reception Nov. 30 at the Hyatt Regency
Denver at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.
The event was organized by members of the Denver
office of Experient and raised more than $7,000
for the Denver Rustler's Kid's Café, a
program created by the Food Bank of the Rockies
that is specifically designed to provide meals
for at risk children in the metro Denver area.
In
the seven years since the Classic - a formal night
of networking, fun and fundraising - was established,
Experient has donated more than $50,000 to the
Kid's Café.
"Putting
together this event was a natural step for us,"
said Gary Schirmacher, Experient senior vice president.
"Early in 1999, we realized that many of
us (in the Denver office) were already volunteering
(at the Café) and wanted to think of something
we could do that would get more people involved
and spread the word about the need for this kind
of service in our area. The Classic allows us
to do that while having a lot of fun at the same
time."
According
to Jeanne Downes, director of the Kid's Café,
1 in 4 homeless persons in the Denver metro area
are children, and 20 percent of the area's children
live in poverty. Many of them benefit from this
program, which provided more than 107,000 nutritious
meals to children last year.
"The
atmosphere in which we serve the meals is an especially
unique part of this program," said Downes.
"They are served in conjunction with tutoring,
gang intervention, mentoring, and leadership programs.
The availability of food enhances these programs'
effectiveness and helps cut down on disciplinary
issues at the sites. Numerous studies have shown
a direct correlation between nutritious meals
and increased academic performance in children."
For
more information on the Denver Rustler's Kid's
Café program, visit www.foodbankrockies.org/kidcafe1.cfm.
Experient
is the source for integrated meeting and event
solutions. With a vision to perfect the event
experience and a mission to help bring people
together to drive business, we have joined together
the three leading event services companies (Conferon,
ExpoExchange and ITS) into one centrally managed
resource for full-service, customized registration,
housing, event management and lead retrieval services.
This year Experient will create memorable event
experiences for more than 2,800 events attended
by 3.2 million people who will occupy and will
drive purchasing of more than 4.2 million hotel
room nights.
